BETHESDA'S POST-APOCALYPTIC CONVENIENCE STORE (PHOTO)

SOMETIMES INVENTORY
OUTLASTS CIVILIZATION!

Another Robert Dyer @ Bethesda Row Exclusive

Imagine you are one of the few "lucky" ones to survive The End of the World.  After wandering the wastelands, you come to the ruins of a city.  Searching up and down deserted streets, you find an abandoned convenience store.  Cautiously, you step close to the front windows, and survey the interior.  All signs of life are gone, but the shelves remain stocked with the items they held at the moment The End came.  Even the last set of magazines remain, a time capsule testifying to what mattered to a society in its last days.

Except - this store actually exists today, in downtown Bethesda!

Welcome to the Plus One Convenience Store!  Located on Norfolk Avenue, it has been closed for months, but the last inventory remains on the shelves.

Plus One was a tenant in the retail building that housed Foong Lin, Bethesda Scooters and Boards, Haandi, Sweet Basil, etc.  All tenants have now been forced out by developer JBG, to make way for a new building.

Foong Lin and Haandi are wrapping up their exits now.

In the near future, the entire green building will be demolished, and only Haandi has secured a downtown space to reopen in this winter.

PlusOne convenience still has several copies of my Maryland Fisherman's Annual and still owes some money for the ones they did sell. Oh well, guess I will never see those or the money again but knowing they are part of a time capsule testifying to what mattered to a society in its last days is reward enough for me.
