EQUITY ONE CLOSES ON SPRINGHOUSE MANOR CARE, MYSTERY RIVER ROAD PROPERTY - WESTBARD REDEVELOPMENT UPDATE

Equity One, the developer that acquired the Westwood Complex in Bethesda last year, has closed on two more of the individual properties involved.

The company now fully owns the 93,642 square foot property currently leased by the Springhouse Manor Care nursing home, at 5101 Ridgefield Road in Bethesda.

Manor Care's lease ends in 2015. Will the nursing home residents get the boot to the curb in two years? Some nearby residents have placed parents in this nursing home because the in-neighborhood location allows them to visit often. Nothing has been said officially by Equity One, so it would be speculation to assume anything at the moment. But definitely a situation to monitor if you have a loved one in that facility. Stay tuned here for the latest developments (pun intended).

Equity also closed on a property listed in real estate records only as "River Road," a "vacant" 4356 sq. ft. piece of land. I do not know what this is. Possibly a portion of land or parking lot on either the Springhouse side or Westwood Center II side that fronts River Road? The odd segment could be the result of the way the original landowner, Dr. Laszlo N. Tauber, divided and leased his vast Westbard-area holdings.

Tauber passed away in 2002.
