Elm St. closes for Pepco work in Bethesda (Photos)

Elm Street closed as scheduled Monday, for an eight month Pepco utility relocation project. The work is in preparation for construction of the new south entrance to the Bethesda Metro station (see rendering at bottom). While the section alongside the Apex Building is entirely closed off to cars west of Wisconsin Avenue, you can still drive up to the parking lot, Potbelly and Tropical Smoothie Cafe from Woodmont Avenue.

What is going on with the judge who said that judge who wanted work on the purple line halted? Didn't the FTA say that they didn't need further ridership studies? Doesn't that mean construction should be allowed to proceed? I haven't heard anything on this subject.

5:14: Yes, the FTA did so in December. My understanding is that the judge now has to rule again on the case.

I seriously doubt the judge will impact the go/no-go decision. There's tremendous government support, and like it or not, the money has already been appropriated. I believe the government views the judge's decision as a temporary setback rather than a true threat to the project.

Pepco might as well rename themselves Pepsi to be more in line with the big business cunts that they are get out of Moco and give it back to the people!

Sure, but it's frustrating that he hasn't done anything since what he asked for has been delivered to him. Will he just sit on his hands forever?

7:36: This is pretty much standard operating procedure with any transportation project. ICC, Beltway, etc. You're going to have lawsuits that delay the project, and you just have to plan ahead for that.

7:36: They are now Exelon.

I almost slammed into one of the signs leaving Equinox, they need to do a better job at night of illuminating this kind of work being done
