Bethesda construction update: Bethesda Library (Photos)

Renovation work at the shuttered Bethesda Library at 7400 Arlington Road has turned to the sidewalk and ADA ramps out front. The curb is being lowered here, and modifications are being made to the ramps for improved accessibility. In addition, the handicapped parking spaces will be relocated from the Arlington Road side to the center of the lot across from the building entrance. The library is scheduled to reopen in early 2018.

Wasn't that area already stair-less? I guess it's the railing they added?

@12:33 PM -- From the appearance of a step in front of the left-side door (to the meeting room), the raised berms on both sides of the walkway, the addition of a stair by the flag pole, and the pitch of the railings, suggests that the grade from street to main-door has been changed. Previously you had to walk up a nearly 45-degree grade from the street to roughly where the bench between side-door and flag pole is shown. I have seen electric powered wheelchairs that could not make it -- folks would have to turn around and try the driveway instead. Now the grade from sidewalk to the front door is is much less a walk uphill.
